October 8, 2012
The next CDT Seminar will be held Monday, October 8th, at the Petit Science Center in PSC124. Please join us to hear Dr. Ming Luo from the University of Alabama. His talk is entitled “Discovery of Novel Inhibitors of Influenza Virus”.
Dr. Ming Luo received his BS in Chemistry at Wuhan University in China and his Ph.D. in Biological Science at Purdue University in Indiana. Since he was a graduate student, Dr. Luo’s research focus has been structures of viruses, including common cold virus, Mengo virus and Theiler’s virus. He worked on the matrix protein and neuraminidase of the influenza virus and developed neuraminidase inhibitors that are now marketed as antiviral drugs. He played a key role in developing a structural genomics pipeline for solving structures from C. elegans genome as well as solving crystal structures of many proteins from vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) and worked on the cryoEM structure of VSV particle. Dr. Luo has decades of experience in viral structural biology and eukaryotic structure genomics. He is presently a Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Associate Professor for the Center for Biophysical Sciences and Engineering at the University of Alabama.
You will also have the opportunity to hear Fellow Graduate, Fange Liu, give a talk entitled ” Structural, Mechanistic and Medicinal Studies of Quinolinic Acid Level Control”.
There will be a Meet and Greet at 12:45pm with coffee and cookies.
I look forward to seeing you there,
Jenny J. Yang, Ph.D.
